PREVENTIVE DIPLOMACY ACADEMY PARTICIPANTS DEEPENED THEIR KNOWLEDGE ABOUT UNITED NATIONS WOMEN, PEACE AND SECURITY AGENDA

ASHGABAT, Turkmenistan

On 16 May, UNRCCA Political Adviser Andrey Khanzhin briefed the PDA participants on the ongoing UNRCCA activities under the UN Security Council Resolution 1325 on Women, Peace, and Security (WPS).

Mr. Khanzhin explained the mandatory nature of the Resolution and pointed out that states are obliged to take specific actions in this regard. He also mentioned how the UN internally ensures gender mainstreaming across all its activities.

During the session, an interactive activity was conducted in which the participants discussed the progress and challenges in the WPS implementation in Central Asia and Afghanistan and on the global level.

UNRCCA promotes the implementation of the WPS agenda across all its activities in line with its Programme of Action. The flagship initiative focused on the WPS promotion is the Women Leaders' Caucus whose objective is to promote the role of women in advancing peace and sustainable development in the region through high-level dialogue and multilateral efforts.
